Spring seems to have finally hit London- hooray! So I thought it a fitting time to release my new Spring capsule collection – Sakura.

‘Sakura’ literally means ‘cherry blossom’ in Japanese. The arrival of ‘sakura’ in Japan is a celebrated event called ‘Hanami’.  Hanami is an important Japanese custom and literally means ‘viewing flowers’, but it generally indicates cherry blossom viewing. It’s said that the origin of hanami dates back to more than one thousand years ago when aristocrats enjoyed looking at beautiful cherry blossoms and wrote poems. I would love to go a Hanami festival one day but until then I will keep daydreaming about Japan and I guess this collection will have to be my Spring celebration.

Sakura is a series of hand painted brass and leather fashion accessories including hair bands, hair pins, and jewellery. The collection was designed over a grey and dull Winter when I was dreaming of  Spring to arrive and bring with it some much needed C O L O U R  Every piece has been hand spray painted in a mix of pastel blues, pinks, lilacs and metallic golds giving a random, ‘colour burst’ effect.  I wanted this collection to be affordable so prices range from £6 for a ponytail band to £28 for a leather alice band.

Sakura is available at selected stockists and also through my online store – www.annmariefaulknermillinery.bigcartel.com

Hope you like it,

From March onwards I will be looking for some interns to work in the studio.

I will need someone to help me out one or two days a week at my Stratford HQ working for both labels – AM Millinery and Faulkner & Carter.

What is involved:

This will be a voluntary role and will involve blocking and sewing of hats and hair accessories, dealing with and packing up orders, post office runs,  assisting to make bridal accessories, helping at client consultations, assisting at photo shoots and any other ad hoc duties that may pop up.

What you will gain:

You will learn hat making and sewing skills, gain valuable experience for your CV of working at a fashion accessories business,  learning how a fashion accessories business operates on a day to day basis and an excellent reference from me for future employers.

Breakfast/lunch will be provided plus as much tea/coffee/ juice as you can drink!

Who should apply:

This is a perfect opportunity for any fashion, textiles and millinery students or anyone thinking of setting up business themselves but would like to gain a bit more experience.

Millinery skills are not essential as they will be taught, but basic sewing skills are essential – in particular hand sewing.

You should also be punctual, hardworking, enthusiastic and not mind dogs as this little guy hangs out in the studio everyday- he is super friendly 🙂

Processed with VSCOcam with se3 preset

How to apply:

To apply please send a current CV to am.millinery@gmail.com with the subject ‘intern’

Look forward to hearing from you!

This year has flown by and I can’t believe I actually managed to survive a whole year working for myself! I’m extremely excited about 2014 and everything thats already planned for it (new collections, a capsule collection for Ascot and a collaboration with Singapore based designer MAH to name a few!)

Thank you to everyone that has supported me this year and special thanks to my beautiful models Harriet, Erika and Kerry who have let me plonk my hats onto their beautiful heads to be photographed and didn’t want anything in return. Much love to you lovely girls 🙂

Happy Holidays everyone and see you in 2014!
